Why Revenue Assurance Should Begin Before the Invoice Is Due

Executive answer

Payment problems often start in documentation, acceptance, certification and approval long before an invoice becomes overdue.

Delay often begins before ageing

An invoice can be headed toward delay while still shown as current: it may not be acknowledged, may lack a GRN or certificate, may be in a query queue, may reference the wrong PO or may not have reached the correct approver.

Day-zero assurance

ValidateCheck invoice, PO, tax references and supporting evidence.
Confirm receiptEstablish that the payer has received and logged the invoice.
Map approvalKnow the actual validation and approval chain.
Detect exceptionsSurface documentation, service, commercial or reconciliation issues while context is fresh.
MonitorTrack progress before due date instead of discovering failure after it.

Risk appetite determines intervention

A company may appoint GGA from Day 0 for government/complex accounts, at due date for higher-risk buyers, or after contractual credit plus a defined grace period for stable accounts. The point is deliberate policy rather than accidental delay.

The outcome

Revenue Assurance does not eliminate every late payment. It reduces avoidable friction and creates earlier evidence about which accounts require active realization or recovery.
